1952 Tour de France Movie Poster 🇮🇹 Designed by Fiorenzo Faorzi

Description:
This poster in limited edition with the number 176 is an original antique first printing, NOT a reproduction. Features gorgeous artwork with the peloton riding towards us with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Original vintage sports poster at the 1952 Tour de France, with advertising logos of Le Parisien and L'Equipe. The 1952 movie was the 39th edition of the Tour de France, staring Fausto Coppi, Gino Bartali and Fiorenzo Magni. Fausto Coppi won the Tour de France twice and was the dominant international cyclist for years on either side of World War II.

Poster of the official film of the Tour 1952, the Tour sponsors an official film Cinesport driven by the newspaper "L'Équipe" and the "Parisien", the organizers, and broadcast in France, but also and especially in Italy, because that year, in 1952 Fausto Coppi (1919-1960) is of course the star. This documentary, which relates this memorable edition, almost step by step, gives us a euphoric text on the exploits of the Campionissimo in the Tourmalet and the Aubisque before his triumph in Pau, while Geminiani wins in Bagnères.

Born in Florence (Italy) on February 3, 1911, the illustrator Fiorenzo Faorzi graduated from the Art Institute of Florence made his debut in 1928 illustrating the book "I ragazzi agricoltori" for Vallecchi.
In the 1930s he collaborated in the series Biblioteca dei miei ragazzi by Salani.
After the war he collaborates, with his brother Giovanni, to La settimana dei ragazzi by Laura Orvieto.
He continued to work as an illustrator for publishing houses such as SEI and Marzocco, until the 1960s, when he decided to devote himself solely to painting.
He died in Florence (Italy) on April 9, 2001.

Provenance: This original vintage bicycle poster was offered by Vermot & Associés at a Drouot auction that took place on April 2, 2022.

This poster has been archivally mounted on acid free paper with museum wheat paste and backed with linen canvas (Linen Backed). This protects the fragile poster. Early vintage posters viewed as temporary advertising were printed on inexpensive paper as their purpose was to be glued up on a wall or kiosk and most probably to have a different one replace it in a short time.

While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve and protect vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising value.

Additional information:
The Tour de France is a multi-stage men's cycling race that takes place primarily in France, while occasionally passing through neighboring countries. Like the other Grand Tours (the Giro d'Italia and the Tour of Spain±a), it consists of 21 one-day stages over a 23-day period. It has been described as "the world most prestigious and challenging cycling race." The race was first held in 1903 to increase sales of the newspaper L'Auto and is currently run by the Amaury Sport Organisation. The race has been held every year since its first edition in 1903, except when it was stopped for the two world wars. As the Tour gained in importance and popularity, the race grew in length and scope and began to spread around the world. Participation expanded from a primarily French field, as riders from around the world began to participate in the race each year. The Tour is a UCI World Tour event, which means that the teams participating in the race are primarily UCI WorldTeams, with the exception of teams that the organizers invite. It has become "the biggest annual sporting event in the world".
